Chelsea net £1M for Smertin's Dynamo Moscow move - March 16, 2006
Chelsea have netted around £1 million from their sale of Alexei Smertin to Dynamo Moscow.
Midfielder Smertin cost the Blues a cool £3.8m when he was signed from Bordeaux in 2003.
He spent his first season in England on loan at Portsmouth before making 25 appearances for Chelsea last year.
The Russia captain was then sent on a season-long loan to Charlton.
But Smertin, 30, asked to be released from the final nine weeks of his contract at The Valley so he could be reunited with his family and take advantage of the three-year deal offered by Dynamo.
His permanent move to Moscow was finalised on transfer deadline day for the new Russian season, which begins this weekend.
