Chelsea offered £55M for Barcelona ace Eto'o - March 17, 2006
Chelsea have launched a mega £55 million bid to prise Samuel Eto'o away from Barcelona.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich took advantage of the Champions League second-leg meeting between the two clubs in Spain to make the offer to Barca officials.
DiarioSport says Abramovich had his chief executive Peter Kenyon make the offer to Barca president Joan Laporta during the pre-match luncheon.
The amount mentioned stuck Laporta for words, before he told Kenyon that Eto'o was happy at Barca and not for sale.
Laporta has since informed Eto'o of the offer, Chelsea's second in two years for the Cameroon ace, and the striker thanked him for his confidence.
