Valencia coach Quique Flores wants to bring Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes back to Spain.
Flores has agreed with new Valencia sports chief Amedao Carboni that Morientes' signing must be a summer market priority.
Carboni has been locked in talks with Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez for a week attempting to thrash out terms for the former European Football of the Year.
Benitez is demanding a straight cash deal of £3.5 million for Morientes, while Carboni has attempted to convince the Spaniard to accept a cash-plus-player swap.
Benitez's latest proposal is for £2.5 million plus Marco Di Vaio in exchange for the Liverpool forward.
