Sweden teammates Olof Mellberg and Freddie Ljungberg clashed in training yesterday.
The Swedish stars squared up to each other and exchanged bad-tempered words in the dressing room after their disappointing 0-0 draw with Trinidad & Tobago in Group B on Saturday.
Team-mates defused the situation but the incident has left the squad in disarray.
Arsenal midfielder Ljungberg and Aston Villa defender Mellberg, 28, have a history.
The pair stunned fans at the 2002 World Cup when they had a fight in training following a hefty tackle by skipper Mellberg on Ljungberg.
Three days ago, Ljungberg walked away from a confrontation after a similar challenge by the defender.
But Ljungberg, 29, had his own dig in a scathing post-match interview on Saturday.
He said: "We played much too many long balls from Mellberg up to our attackers."
