Bayern Munich are considering making a move for Manchester United's unsettled Holland striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
"He wanted to join us in 2001 in case his move to Manchester United fell through," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild.
"We are not doing anything behind Manchester United's back but, first of all, we must find out whether he is really on the market for a fair price.
"It's a little too early to start thinking in concrete terms about this topic.
"But he is world class, straightforward and honest. A great guy."
