Vieri cancels Monaco contract for Sampdoria move

Christian Vieri has cancelled his contract with Monaco in order to move to Sampdoria, the same club which his father Roberto played for the in the 60's.

Vieri is set to take a massive 75% paycut, but he was adamant that he wanted to return to Italy and it was he who selected Sampdoria as his destination.
Sampdoria Director General Marotta told the Italian media that it was an opportunity to good to miss.
"It was he who wanted to come back to Italy. It was he who picked us. And when a player as good as Christian Vieri wants to wear your jersey, you don't say no."
An injury plagued 12 months cost Vieri a place in the Azzurri World Cup squad.
