Paraguay legend Jose Luis Chilavert has branded the current team as "useless".
Chilavert, Paraguay's famous former penalty-taking keeper, is now working as a TV commentator but has also launched a savage attack on coach Anibal Ruiz.
Chilavert said: "Paraguay will lose to England because they had an appalling preparation. The manager is useless.
"Not only were the players were on holiday until May19th, the manager is taking 35-year-old veterans like Carlos Gamarra, Roberto Acuna and Jose Cardozo."
Chilavert also accused Oscar Harrison, the Paraguayan Football Association's president, of trying to take all the credit for the country reaching its third consecutive World Cup finals.
He added: "In reality it was we, the players who achieved that glory.
"They will try and do it again this time if the players do spring a surprise in this World Cup."
