Spurs expect £7M Man Utd offer for Carrick

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson remains interested in Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick.

Ferguson is aware Carrick is still to sign a new contract at Spurs and is pondering a move for the England international after the World Cup.
Carrick could play tomorrow night against Paraguay as Steven Gerrard battles to be fit for England's World Cup opener.
United made a formal inquiry this week about Carrick's situation and Spurs are bracing themselves for a £7 million bid to soon be tabled, says the Independent.
Carrick has two years remaining on his contract and this summer would expect a new deal that would stretch Tottenham's pay structure to breaking point.
Carrick and his agent, David Giess, have been told that talks will be opened with Tottenham after the World Cup finals, although a salary of £50,000 a week upwards would not be sanctioned by White Hart Lane. Instead they are prepared to let him go for more than twice the £2.75m they paid West Ham for him in August 2004.
