Man Utd determined to win race for Gudjohnsen

Manchester United are closing in on a £9 million deal with Chelsea for striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The People says United officials are working behind the scenes to persuade Gudjohnsen to head for Old Trafford and not the Nou Camp this summer.
The 27-year-old Iceland star, used both as a striker and an attacking midfielder by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, is ready to leave Stamford Bridge after the £31 million arrival of AC Milan superstar Andriy Shevchenko. He has been told he can go for £9 million.
Any deal to allow Gudjohnsen to join Chelsea's big rivals will hinge on relations between the two clubs after the bitter wrangle over Nigerian teenager John Obi Mikel.
