Man Utd's Rooney texts pals: I'm going to World Cup!

After getting the all-clear from his scan yesterday, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney fired off a stream of text messages to friends declaring he'll play a part in the World Cup.

But the FA and Manchester United could not even agree on a joint statement last night, although one is expected today. England defender John Terry said: “Wayne is an important player and a great player. It will be a boost to have him back.”
There were joyous scenes at the team hotel near Baden Baden following a day of drama in Manchester.
Rooney’s scan was examined by FA and Manchester United docs — with the FA adamant he could play and United questioning whether he was fit.
But the result was Roon, 20, got the World Cup go-ahead — and optimists in the England camp believe he could even resume full training today or tomorrow.
FA executive director David Davies has agreed not to play the striker without talking to United’s doctors, but he could yet face Sweden in the final Group B qualifying game on June 20.
England boss Sven Goran Eriksson was delighted by the verdict but has always been confident, following advice from his trusted team doc Leif Sward.
