Javier Aguirre intends to bring with him Osasuna defender Carlos Cueller to Atletico Madrid.
The Mexican coach is set to be named new Atletico trainer in the coming days and has told his new employers he wants to stiffen their defence with the addition of Cueller.
The Madrid-born centre-half, 25, has been outstanding for Osasuna this season.
Meanwhile, Aguirre has also told the Atletico board to take Martin Petrov off the market. The Bulgaria international was in line to return to the Bundesliga, but Aguirre rates him highly and wants to keep the striker at the Vicente Calderon next season.
