Fiorentina director general Pantaleo Corvino stepped up his bid for Lyon midfielder Mahmadou Diarra this week.
Corvino watched Diarra in action against AC Milan at the San Siro last night and was later spotted at the Hilton in the city centre, where Lyon's players were staying.
Despite interest from AC Milan and Juventus, Diarra has told close friends he would like to play for Fiorentina if he must leave his French club. Last summer, Fiorentina had a £4.5 million offer for 50 per cent of Diarra's registration rejected by Lyon.
The Mali international signed a new deal earlier this year through to 2010.
