Man Utd's Rooney told 6 weeks out

England's World Cup hopes are on a knife edge after Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was told he has a fractured metatarsal suffered in yesterday's disappointing 3-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Rooney has been told he could be out for six weeks, exactly the amount of time until England's first match against Paraguay on 10 June. He was stretchered off late in Man Utd's defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Rooney left Stamford Bridge on crutches having injured the same foot that he broke at Euro 2004.
Rooney is seen as being key to England's hopes at the World Cup and any concerns over his fitness would add to England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's injury worries.
