Jose won't go back for Gerrard

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will not make a third attempt to sign Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Mourinho has spent the past two summers trying to entice Gerrard to Stamford Bridge, but has not proved persuasive.

Ahead of Saturday's FA Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Liverpool, Mourinho admits he will not try to land the midfield powerhouse for a third time.

He acknowledged Gerrard's ability, but confirmed he will not be looking to add the England international to his squad this summer.

"Gerrard is a very good player, a very important player for them, but no, I wouldn't go back in for him," commented Mourinho.

"We have good players, we have moved on and are probably champions again."

The Blues chief is trying to strengthen his midfield with the capture of German ace Michael Ballack, while Gerrard has been linked with Real Madrid.

The Spanish titans have confirmed that they would be interested in putting together a bid for the Reds captain.

But Gerrard has revealed he is happy to stay at Anfield, while Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has no plans to sell his skipper.
