Liverpool battle Lyon for Squillaci

Liverpool are battling former manager Gerard Houllier at Lyon for Monaco defender Sebastien Squillaci.

The Mirror says Houllier's Lyon failed with a £5million bid for him in the January transfer window with Monaco seeking double that amount to sell one of the club's best remaining players.
The 25-year-old signed a new four-year contract until 2009 last summer when Didier Deschamps was still in charge. But this season Monaco are languishing in 12th place in the French First Division and unlikely to play in Europe next season.
Rafa Benitez snapped up Dane Daniel Agger in the January window for £5.8m from Brondby but the club is still looking for the long-term successor to veteran Sami Hyypia.
