Livorno players tried to convince Donadoni to stay

Livorno captain Cristiano Lucarelli has revealed the players made a desperate appeal to Roberto Donadoni not to resign as coach earlier this year.

Donadoni quit after being publicly criticised by Livorno president Aldo Spinelli and Lucarelli revealed last night: "We've now lost our sixth game in a row and we're ready to take on our critics.
"But I must clarify some things: It's true we're now doing worse than we were under Donadoni, but it was he who chose to leave us. Even if it was induced.
"Some of us, before the trip to Ascoli, stayed with him until 2am in the morning trying to convince him to stay. But he chose to leave us."
