Manchester City have moved for Lazio midfielder Ousmane Dabo.
Dabo, 29, is a free agent at the end of his contract in Italy and would be ideal for Pearce as he can move to City within their budget.
Pearce contacted Dabo and his English-based adviser Willie McKay over the weekend, says the Mirror.
Ironically, City had been in dispute with McKay over Joey Barton's refusal to sign a new deal, but now they need the agent to bring in his possible replacement.
