Real Madrid to win race for Lyon powerhouse Diarra

Real Madrid are set to beat AC Milan and Manchester United for Lyon midfielder Mahmadou Diarra.

The Mali international has emerged as the hottest midfield target in Europe's transfer market after his superb Champions League campaign this season.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has made personal checks on Diarra in recent weeks, as has AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.
However, Real are close to an agreement, with Diarra's agent Frederic Guerra expected in Madrid this week to close a deal over personal terms.
Lyon want £15 million for Diarra, who only extended his contract earlier this year, and Real president Fernando Martin is ready to give the green light for the deal.
