Roeder backs Houllier for Newcastle job

Caretaker boss Glenn Roeder is backing Lyon coach Gerard Houllier for the Newcastle United job.

The Frenchman is in charge of Champions League quarter-finalists Lyon but is interested in the Newcastle position.
Houllier had heart surgery during his time at Liverpool and took a particular interest when Roeder was recovering from a brain tumour.
Roeder said: "He's become a friend. He was very kind at a very difficult time for me. He's a top manager. so I'm not surprised he would be interested."
