Former Real Madrid general manager Arrigo Sacchi has revealed he tried to sign Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard for Parma.
Sacchi was director general at Parma before his move to Real last year and coached Rijkaard while they were together at AC Milan.
"I wanted to sign him before anybody else," said Sacchi. "I have always liked him as a person and felt he would do well here in Italy as a coach.
"Of course, it's no surprise to me that he is now doing so well."
