Fulham secure Diop to new contract

Fulham have secured midfield ace Papa Bouba Diop to a new contract through to 2009.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman said: "I have always maintained that Bouba is an important player for this club.

"I am delighted that he has committed his future to us until 2009 as he is very much part of my plans."
Diop will return to action this weekend against Sunderland after three months out with a foot injury.
Coleman had previously been denied his services by his participation in the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
And, after only substitute appearance for Fulham, he picked up an injury playing an international friendly in March.
Coleman added: "We have five games left and it's important we conclude the season positively with some good performances, and now he is back from injury, I'm glad Bouba will be part of the squad to help us do just that."
And Diop said: "I am determined to help finish the season on a high note by playing my part in the remaining games, and am looking forward to my future being with Fulham."
Coleman admits Diop is unlikely to play the whole game against Sunderland.
"It will be a little bit of a gamble because he hasn't played 90 minutes for us since the beginning of November," said the Fulham boss.
"I would be surprised if he plays the 90 minutes.
"It could be he starts and doesn't finish or we might bring him on later in the game.
"We need the points and it's got to the stage where we're having to take a bit of a chance on him even though he is lacking the match practice."
