Man Utd to give Rooney softly, softly treatment over gambling

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson won't give Wayne Rooney the hairdryer treatment over his alleged gambling problem.

Ferguson does not want is to see a David Beckham situation develop, where the pair finally ended up at loggerheads over the player's off-field celebrity.
A United insider told The Sun: "Ferguson is fiercely protective of Wayne Rooney.
"He understands the temptations out there for players and does his best to help where he can.
"He recognises that the player is only 20 years old and he will try and help him rather than chastise him."
Ferguson is intent on getting to the bottom of the weekend headlines alleging Rooney has lost £700,000 gambling.
He wants to make sure his star turn does not find himself in the same hole again.
