Tottenham boss Martin Jol has revealed how he used to flog fake designer gear to Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce when the pair were teammates at Coventry City!
Jol said: "Stuart is probably still wearing the jumpers I sold him. In Europe, you have all the Lacoste and Armani clothes but they are fake. He didn't know that, that's why I said he's still wearing them!"
Pearce had recently given up his job as an electrician and been signed from non-league Wealdstone when he met Jol.
While Jol was not one of the players Pearce used to perform odd jobs for, he remembers the young left-back's famed intensity and his tree-trunk thighs.
Jol said: "I can't remember him doing electrical jobs at Coventry. Even then we were on quite good wages of £500 or £600 a week.
"He was from London and everybody said he was a Cockney. I hadn't heard that expression before. They called him Psycho later after Coventry but he was the same then.
"He was not outspoken but was a real pro. He was tough and he had such big legs!
"He was quiet but had a great mentality and he's brought that will-to-win into his Man City team.
"And it's not an artificial thing with him. Everybody knows he REALLY wants to win."
