AC Milan to meet buyout clause for Roma's Mexes

AC Milan are ready to snap up Roma defender Philippe Mexes for a relatively knockdown £6.5 million.

The French international's contract is said to carry a clause which allows him to leave for £6.5 million - an option which was added to Mexes' deal while he struggled for form at the start of his Roma career.
Roma viewed it as an escape clause for themselves, but Mexes' outstanding season could see them lose millions from his transfer this summer.
Milan are ready to take advantage and have already offered Mexes a three-year deal worth £1.2 million-a-season.
The defender's agent, Olivier Jouanneaux, said: "The player will not speak about the market and his future before June.
"The buyout clause? No comment, I will not refute nor confirm that it is written in the contract. Mexes, however, is happy at Roma and in Rome."
